About the Event
Join SFU’s Institute for Diaspora Research and Engagement (IDRE), Hogan’s Alley Society, and Building Bridges with Rwanda for the 25th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi, honouring the innocent lives that have been lost and recognizing that this loss has been the source of Rwanda’s resilience.
For the past 25 years, the Rwandan community in Metro Vancouver has been commemorating the slaughter of 1,000,000 innocent people who were killed because they were members of the ethnic Tutsi monority, or modertate Hutus who refused to buy into the ethnic cleansing ideology. On June 6, from 5:30 - 9:30 pm, we will come together, to hear stories of change and the work of Rwandan and Canadian change agents. We will meet to celebrate the remarkable work that Rwandans have done in reconstruction and reconciliation of post-genocide Rwanda. Reception will be held including a cash bar with fundraising going towards the RR25 Legacy Project.
