Student Community Engagement Competition: Final Event

Join us for a thought-provoking dialogue on community-university partnerships and get inspired by SFU students who will showcase innovative project ideas to engage with community!

On Tuesday November 15th, we invite you to attend the final event for the SFU Surrey-Central City Student Community Engagement Competition! The evening will begin with a fun and interactive dialogue on community-university partnerships which will set the stage for the inspiring presentations by SFU students who have come up with innovative ideas to engage the Central City neighbourhood. Three student teams will be awarded a total of $7000 to develop and implement their ideas.

The event will take place at the SFU Surrey Campus in room 5140 from 5pm–8pm. Refreshments will be provided. For more information and to register, please see:

More about the Competition:

The SFU Surrey—Central City Student Community Engagement Competition is a collaborative initiative involving Blackwood Partners, Central City, the City of Surrey and Simon Fraser University designed to encourage community-student engagement through innovation.

Students will be awarded funds to develop and implement their ideas. Award categories are as follows:

  • Blackwood Award: $3000.00 Grand Award (all finalist projects are considered)
  • Blackwood Award: $2000.00 Engagement Award (only finalist projects NOT related to placemaking are considered)
  • City of Surrey Award: $2000.00 Place-Making Project Award (only finalist projects related to placemaking are considered)
