Earth Science Articulation Meeting – Malaspina – May 2008
The 2008 Earth Science Articulation meeting will be hosted by Malaspina University College from May 13 th to 15 th . The business meeting will be held in the morning of the 13 th , and we are organizing a session on Earth Science teaching methods and strategies for the afternoon. Lunch will be provided.
We have planned a field trip to Quadra Island on the 14 th and 15 th . We will depart at 8:30 AM on May 14 th and will spend the rest of the day examining the rocks along the Wrangellia – Coast Range Plutonic Complex boundary in Open Bay (see map below). We’ll stay at Discovery Islands Lodge on the 14 th . On May 15th we’ll look at karst features in Triassic Limestone and at the area around the Lucky Jim Mine. We will be
back in Nanaimo by 5 PM on the 15 th .
A schedule is provided on the next page. More details will be sent out shortly on both the Earth Science teaching and learning session and the field trip.
There is no cost to attend the meetings on the 13th. The cost per participant for the field trip will be $150. This includes all meals on the field trip, transportation, the ferry cost to and from Quadra Island and accommodation at Discovery Islands Lodge.
If you are planning to join us on the field trip we request that you stay in the Malaspina student residences on the 13 th (rather than at a hotel) so that we can get away in good time to make the 10:30 ferry to Quadra. You can also stay in residences on the 12 th if required.
