Stratigraphy and sedimentological characterization of the northwest McMurray sub-basin, Athabasca Oil Sands Region, Alberta
This project aims to formulate an integrated sedimentological, ichnological, and stratigraphic model of the McMurray Formation and Wabiskaw Member of the northwestern Ells Paleovalley. The Ells Paleovalley is topographically higher than many areas of the Athabasca Oil Sands Region (AOSR) and may be more sensitive to base level change. There is little evidence of extensive channel incision, and therefore this area is crucial for delineating significant (allogenic) stratigraphic surfaces compared to deposits further east in the main fairway.
