This course offers an introduction to the field of Education and Technology,
with an emphasis on efforts to re-shape schooling and professional education
through the use of computers. Through readings, project work, and a combination
of on-line and in-class discussions, we will survey several major traditions
of research and development in this field, and attempt to make sense of
the whole.
One area of emphasis for the course will be understanding the arguments
and assumptions that each tradition of work in Educational Technology
makes about how learning happens, what constitutes a valuable educational
outcome, and how we would know if it was achieved. Another will be the
question of how and why technology-based innovations for learning spread
(or don’t).
