Inquiry and Learning in the Early Years (Vancouver) - Spring 2021

OVERVIEW

This Graduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in Education (GDE) program has been developed in partnership with School District #39, Vancouver, for educators looking to deepen their understanding of learners aged 4–8.

Due to current Health and Safety protocols, the Spring 2021 term will be conducted online, through both synchronous and asynchronous methods. Courses will embody the program's core foundations of relationship building, inquiry and collaborative learning.

PROGRAM THEMES

  • Intentional design of environment and materials
  • Frameworks to support the holistic development of children, including Indigenous approaches to teaching and learning (First Peoples Principles of Learning)
  • Pedagogical narration and communicating student learning
  • Inclusive and responsive curriculum
  • Integral role of play with well-being and learning
  • Living inquiries as pathways for exploration and learning
  • Family and community as partners in learning

This two-year, 30-unit program of study is for educators whose primary focus is school-based educational practice. It provides the opportunity to engage in focused, sustained reflective inquiry. Completion of the diploma allows educators to move from TQS category 4 to 5 or from category 5 to 5+.
