Language, Literacy and Learning in the Early Years (Surrey) - Fall 2021


This Graduate Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in Education (GDE) program, has been developed in partnership with School District #36, Surrey, for K–3 educators interested in deepening their understanding of early learning pedagogical practices, literacy, and holistic development of learners aged 4-8.

GDE programs are designed in collaboration with British Columbia school districts for educators whose primary focus is school-based practice within BC. This program focuses on British Columbia’s Ministry of Education curriculum and the Early Learning Framework and explores how to teach it using relational and inclusive pedagogies.

This two-year, 30-unit program of study is for educators whose primary focus is school-based educational practice. It provides the opportunity to engage in focused, sustained reflective inquiry. Completion of the diploma allows educators to move from TQS category 4 to 5 or from category 5 to 5+.

  • Format: This GDE is currently scheduled as an in-person program. If the COVID-19 situation for Fall 2021 requires that the program delivery mode change to remote delivery, we will inform applicants as soon as any announcements are made by the university.
