Curriculum & Instruction: Imaginative Education – Imaginative Teaching & Learning in the New BC Curriculum MEd - Fall 2017


This Master of Education (MEd) program is based on two aspects of the Imaginative Education Research Group’s (IERG) work: understanding how learners’ imaginations develop and exploring ways to engage learners’ imaginations in learning the material of the curriculum.

Additionally, it has been designed to respond to the particular challenges of the new BC curriculum, with its emphasis on Essential Questions, Big Ideas and Competencies.  Teachers of all grade levels will learn how to adapt curriculum and pedagogy to foster students' imaginations to engage with and respond to curricular themes and topics.

  • Explore and evaluate alternative and innovative ideas about education for more effective teaching, and relate them to the new BC curriculum
  • Engage in the active reworking of subject matter to capture learners’ imaginations by engaging with the theories and practices of Imaginative Education within the context of the new BC curriculum
  • Plan, implement and evaluate their use of these innovative ideas in practice, drawing on active research and other traditions to inform research design and methods
