Year Graduated: 2013
Program/Degree: Educational Practice MEd
I'm very excited about graduating and attending the convocation ceremonies June 14th... it's a proud moment for me. I enjoy spending my free time working out and exercising, along with running with my dog Bailey. I'm getting married this July and am eager to begin a new chapter in my life. Shaun and I spend time together by relaxing at our favourite restaurants, enjoying the ocean view. Playing the drums is another passion of mine that allows me to escape into the music and relax.
Please tell us why you chose the Faculty of Education at SFU for your studies.
I chose the Faculty of Education at SFU because I laddered the Fine Arts graduate diploma program into the master’s program. SFU was also highly recommended by colleagues for graduate studies because of their highly regarded professors and curriculum.
Who is a faculty member you have enjoyed working with and why?
My favourite professor was Dr. Michael Ling. He made me feel like my voice and input was appreciated, as he made everyone feel safe to contribute during discussions. He had a way of making me and everyone else feel welcome and always delivered an interesting lesson. He was engaging and one of the nicest people I've ever met.
What do you miss most about your graduate studies in the Faculty of Education?
I miss the community of learners within my group of colleagues to discuss and engage in conversations regarding current issues and trends in my classroom. Share-outs and feedback from my cohort were profound and refreshing in a profession where teachers can feel isolated. I felt the wealth of knowledge amongst my colleagues provided me an in-depth perspective to a variety of issues.
What would you say to prospective students who are considering graduate school in the Faculty of Education?
Working toward a master's degree in the Faculty of Education at SFU is the most rewarding endeavour I've ever embarked upon. I am over-joyed by my accomplishment and thoroughly enjoyed my cohort. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to achieve higher education for personal and professional growth.
Is there anything else you wish to share?
This is a very proud and exciting moment for me. I can't wait for the convocation ceremony!
