Year Graduated: 2010
Program/Degree: Educational Technology & Learning Design MEd
I am the CEO of Cogcentric Labs Inc., andI have been designing, deploying, and managing learning projects since 1992.
Please tell us how you first discovered your program.
Working in Phil Winne's gStudy lab during my undergrad.
Please tell us why you chose the Faculty of Education at SFU for your studies.
It was the best option given my geographic location and socioeconomic status.
Who is a faculty member you have enjoyed working with and why?
Phil Winne gave me a tremendous number of opportunities while working in his lab, and for that I am eternally grateful.
What do you miss most about your graduate studies in the Faculty of Education?
Having animated discussions about cognition or learning theory with fellow students and professors.
What would you say to prospective students who are considering graduate school in the Faculty of Education?
If you want a broad overview of educational technology theory and history, the ETLD program is for you. If you want practical hands-on experience with instructional design, or training program management, you should probably look elsewhere.
Is there anything else you wish to share?
I would love to develop an instructional design course for the program. It's sorely lacking, and would really enhance the commercial value and hands-on practicality of the program.
