On March 23rd, the 'Institute for Environmental Learning' had its inaugural open house at the Round House Community Centre in Yaletown. The event featured live music, food and a presentation by its Director, Dr. David Zandvliet, (associate professor of education) which outlined the development of this new research Institute supported jointly by SFU's Faculty of Education and Faculty of Environment. In January 2010, a collaborative group of researchers from SFU, UBC and Royal Roads University, were granted a UN-University charter as Regional Centre for Expertise in this area of research. The new Institute provides a governance structure for a collaborative which includes the BC Ministry of Education and Metro Vancouver.
