Despite all of the attention to multimodality and research focussing on how and what people use to make meaning in their lives, there are still questions as to why "multimodal literacy might matter to people and their communities" (2016, Sense Publishers).  

In their new book, 'Why Multimodal Literacy Matters,' authors Susan O'Neill (Simon Fraser University) and Rachel Heydon (Western University) answer the questions: "How, for instance, might multimodal literacy be implicated in wellbeing? And what of the little-researched sonic in multimodal ensembles?"
