New Book Release: Windsor Studies in Argument
Mark Battersby and Sharon Bailin will be familiar names to anyone who has followed the development of informal logic, critical thinking and argumentation theory over the last quarter century. In Inquiry: A New Paradigm for Critical Thinking, they provide a theoretical account of critical thinking that adopts inquiry as its central concept. Their approach broadens the notion of critical thinking in a way that incorporates epistemological (not merely logical) norms of assessment; advocates the comparison of a variety of contending positions (instead of focusing on individual arguments); and emphasizes the dialectical, intellectual and historical context in which thinking is embedded.
WINDSOR STUDIES IN ARGUMENT (WSIA) aims to publish timely works in the theory of argumentation -- understood broadly, in a way that encompasses informal logic, rhetoric, dialectics, and related fields.
