Congratulations to Carolyn Roberts for her YWCA Women of Distinction Award nomination in the category of Education, Training and Development!

Roberts, a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University, works passionately to shape and change the Faculty's Professional Development Program to decolonize the education system by integrating Indigenous pedagogy. “It is such a privilege to be able to do this work in Indigenous education and colonization,” says Roberts. “This journey is not always easy, but I am always filled with hope that what I do makes a difference, every day, in some small way.”

The YWCA Women of Distinction Awards, a YWCA Metro Vancouver and Scotiabank initiative, is awarded annually to extraordinary women leaders and organizations who have provided contributions to the well-being and future of communities across Metro Vancouver.

“Words cannot fully express what an honour it is to be nominated for the Woman of Distinction award,” says Roberts. “Being nominated not only uplifts myself in the work, it also honours all of us who do this work together. It gives all of us the hope and belief that our work is critical and what we do together will give our next seven generations a better life and a better education.”

The 37th YWCA Women of Distinction Award winners along with awards gala details will be announced soon. Stay updated here.
