Opening Celebration of 312 Main Street

The Dean attended the opening celebration event of the 3rd floor space and programs at 312 Main Street. Pictured here with Dr. Stuart Poyntz, Co-Director of SFU’s Community Engaged Research Initiative (CERi), the space includes staff from Lifelong Learning, SFU Public Square, and resources to support Community Engaged Research.

Looking Back & Looking Forward: Empowering Indigenous Pathways with the 4Rs Advisory Circle

Dr. O'Neill attended the third and final in the series of gatherings of the Looking Back & Looking Forward: Empowering Indigenous Pathways with the 4Rs Advisory Circle. Their findings will be shared and recommendations will be made by Advisory Council members for SFU’s next steps in supporting Indigenous students to and through their post-secondary journey. The planning group is co-chaired by education professor Dr. Michelle Pidgeon and Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Tania Bubela and includes representation from a variety of university faculties and departments, as well as the offices of the Vice-President Academic and the Registrar.

Celebration dinner for Dr. Danièle Moore, Distinguished University Professor

January 23, 2020

The Dean hosted a dinner to honour Dr. Danièle Moore who was appointed as Distinguished University Professor from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2024. Danièle was one of eight of Simon Fraser University’s leading academic scholars to become the first recipients of the prestigious title of Distinguished SFU Professor. This new designation recognizes their outstanding performance and achievements, and celebrates their international pre-eminence in their fields.

National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Conference

January 12-18, 2020

The Dean, as the current president of the International Society for Music Education (an affiliate of UNESCO with members from over 95 countries) met with members of the ISME Executive Committee who are from Africa, Australia, Canada, Greece, and the UK. The meetings took place during the NAMM conference in Anaheim, California. NAMM is a major sponsor of ISME and hosts one of the world’s largest music industry conference, with members from commercial companies, distributors, educational affiliates, and manufacturers.

President Petter & Maureen Maloney host annual New Year's Dinner

Dr. O'Neill attended the annual New Year’s Dinner hosted by President Petter and Maureen Maloney at their residence.

FCAT Dean's Search Committee

January 7, 2020

Dr. O’Neill is a member of the Search Committee for a new Dean in the Faculty of Communications, Art and Technology (FCAT). The Dean of FCAT will support all operations across three campuses with three unique Schools: Communication, Contemporary Arts, Interactive Arts and Technology and two distinct programs: Publishing and the Masters of Digital Media.

New Senior Director Welcome Lunch and Coffee Meet and Greets

January 2, 2020

The Dean hosted a lunch to welcome Jennifer Adams, the Faculty’s new Senior Director, Faculty Operations and Strategic Planning. Jennifer comes to us from Memorial University and brings a varied background that includes strategic operations, communications, technology, financial and human resources leadership. The Dean introduced Jennifer to staff through a series of informal coffee meetings at the Burnaby and Surrey campuses.
