Professional Development Program (PDP)
Become a certified teacher in B.C.
The Professional Development Program (PDP) is SFU's long-standing and highly-regarded teacher education program. Since 1965, the PDP has developed more than 20,000 teachers, making it one of the oldest and most successful teaching programs in British Columbia
Integrating theory and practice, the full-time, post-degree program helps student teachers to explore educational ideas and their application in the classroom. Upon successful completion, student teachers are recommended by SFU to the Teacher Certification Branch of the B.C. Ministry of Education for a teaching certificate. Many student teachers also have the option of completing a Bachelor of Education (BEd) as a second degree without adding extra time or cost to the program.
Like our other teacher education programs, the PDP uses a unique staffing model that teams SFU's world-class researchers (faculty members) with highly-skilled seconded teachers (faculty associates) and practising K-12 teachers (school associates) as teacher educators.
Learn more about the PDP at an upcoming information session hosted by the Admissions team.
