I am currently a second year student in the Faculty of Education. I am in the Bachelors of General Studies in Education with minors in Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Curriculum and Instruction, and Early Learning. My goal is to one day apply for the PDP program, and become an Elementary School teacher.
WHY I CHOSE THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION
From a young age, I have known that I wanted to be a teacher. I love to work with kids in my summer camp programs, and volunteering in a grade 7 classroom. What also really attracted me to SFU was their amazing PDP programs. With modules that sound extremely interesting, I would love to participate in the experience.
INSTRUCTOR OF NOTE
Although not a professor in the Faculty of Education, Malgorzata Dubiel is one of the profs who teach Math190, a prerequisite for the PDP program. Dr. Dubiel was always willing to help future teachers grasp the topics in her workshops, and taught a clear and organized class. Her Math190 class was one of my favourites that I’ve taken so far at SFU, and I would definitely recommend it.
2017 was the year where I began volunteering in a grade 7 classroom. This experience has been significantly beneficial for my future experiences in a classroom. Each child has their own unique and profound personality that I personally love to see. Each day of volunteering, there is always something new that I learn not only from the teacher I am working under, but the other children, staff, and parents as well. This has truly been an unforgettable experience that I will never forget.
MY STUDENT ADVICE
If you are ever scared about taking a risk, the only thing worse than failing, is not trying. at all. Each mistake is a learning opportunity, and allows you to grow as a person.
