John Ragone

"I want to inspire youth to want to achieve more with their lives, to do something with significance, and I believe that can start with the quality of the education they receive."

My program

I am in my fourth year of post secondary studies in History, Biology, and Educational Psychology.

Why I chose the Faculty of Education

Working with children and youth from dysfunctional families is what motivated me to direct my studies towards education. I chose SFU's Faculty of Education because of the quality of it's Professional Development Program. I want my work to make an impact on others. I want to inspire youth to want to achieve more with their lives, to do something with significance, and I believe that can start with the quality of the education they receive.

Instructor of Note

I have appreciated every interaction I have had with Alana Nordstrand, the Dean's Secretary, as she has been incredibly welcoming and accommodating for me.

My inspiration

I have spent time with individuals in different countries who do not have access to higher education and whose children do not have access to basic education. I don't want to forget the privilege I have to be able to attend university. I've also adopted a phrase from one of my mentors which has become a sort of mantra for me: "Leaders are readers."

My student advice

If you want an education that is practical, significant, interesting and personal, an undergraduate degree in Education would be an answer to your searching!
