My Program

I have wanted to become a teacher for quite some time and have worked with children for many years now, reconfirming how much I enjoy being a part of children's lives. I am currently in my final year of my undergraduate degree and plan on applying for PDP soon, which is quite exciting!

Why I chose the Faculty of Education

The teachers that I knew, such as former teachers of mine or family friends, all spoke highly of SFU's PDP program. SFU is a well regarded school and in my experience, the Faculty of Education at SFU is well regarded as well. Of course, I am pleased with my choice as I have taken many fascinating and helpful courses with experienced and engaging professors.

My Inspiration

As a teacher, there is the potential to have a significant positive impact on the lives of your students. Simply put, I want to learn as much as I possibly can to prepare myself and do my best to be a great teacher, the type of teacher that children deserve to have.

My Student Advice

Take the courses that interest you and that you are genuinely passionate to learn more about. I majored in Psychology so I took very few Education courses in my first few years. However, Education courses are some of my favourite courses that I have taken at SFU because I find the content engaging and useful to my future career. I only regret not taking more courses in the Faculty of Education during my time at SFU!

Final Thoughts

Academics are important but don't forget that there is more to your university experience. Make the most of it! I have had the wonderful experience of being involved with the Education Student Association (ESA), which is the departmental student union that organizes events, takes on projects and initiatives, and advocates on behalf of Education students. Being involved within the SFU community in this way, among many others, led to a wonderful opportunity: I was elected as the Faculty of Education Representative on the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) Board of Directors. The Faculty of Education is such a diverse and unique faculty so take advantage of the opportunities to get to know all of your wonderful fellow Education students!
