Meet SFU English’s New Graduate Program Assistant

March 31, 2021

SFU’s Department of English welcomes Kelli McKenna as its new graduate program assistant. Previously with Meeting, Events, and Conference Services, Kelli takes up the position from Christa Gruninger, who after 14 years of service to the Department, has retired.

Kelli has worked at SFU Burnaby for more than four years and has helped to coordinate staff and student events with 500-plus attendees. She especially enjoyed assisting with SFU’s Welcome Days.

“It was so much fun being part of such a huge community,” Kelli says. “There are a lot of good humans there in one spot.”

In her new role with SFU English, Kelli is looking forward to meeting the graduate students, building a relationship with them, and helping them to reach their goals.

Until the fall semester, Kelli will be meeting with students remotely. She recognizes that the pandemic has taken its toll on everyone in the SFU community. To stay grounded, she turns to meditation and mindfulness practices.

Other activities Kelli enjoys in her spare time are reading non-fiction, watching documentaries, crafting, and hiking. She also has a nine-year-old rescue dog named Mason, who she is excited for everyone to meet when we can all be in person again.
