SFU engineering science professor Marinko Sarunic and his team have been selected as recipients of the 2018 BC Innovation Council (BCIC) Ignite Awards. A total of $990,000 was awarded to four research projects that are driving innovation in BC.

Sarunic and his team, which includes Manish Kulkarni, CEO of Seymour Vision, and Dr. Eduardo Navajas, vitreoretinal surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital’s Eye Care Centre, were awarded $300,000 to further develop their retinal imaging technology. The images generated by their laser scanner shows retinal cells and blood vessels at a higher resolution and could allow clinicians to diagnose eye diseases much earlier.

“We think it has the potential to help diagnose the diseases earlier and help save patients’ visions,” says Sarunic.
