Linguistics Manager Rita Parmar Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

February 15, 2016

The overwhelming number of heartfelt nomination letters from faculty and staff in the Department of Linguistics illustrate that no candidate is more deserving of the 2015 Staff Achievement Award for lifetime achievement than Rita Parmar.

Parmar, who holds an SFU BA with a major in English and a minor in linguistics, has worked at the University for 26 years, 22 of them in the Department of Linguistics where she began as an undergraduate assistant.

Now the department’s manager of academic and administrative services, she oversees all aspects of the department, from budgeting to course scheduling, and also finds time to advise students. She does all this while fostering a work environment that colleagues say they find fun and rewarding, and that makes them happy to come to work each day.
