Gloria Gutman, Gerontology, Invested into the Order of Canada

Professor Emerita Gloria Gutman, Gerontology, was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada in a ceremony presided over by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, at Rideau Hall on May 12, 2017.

Gutman, a pioneer in the field of Gerontology, was officially cited for the compassion and dedication that have been the hallmarks of her career. As the founding director and chair of the Gerontology Research Centre and of the Gerontology Department, she led important studies and educational initiatives to improve the quality of life for senior citizens. She has consulted with numerous community and public health groups to develop urban infrastructures tailored for elderly users. As president of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, she worked to ensure the protection of our aging population.

Forty-five Canadians joined the order or were promoted to a higher rank within the order, which this year marks its 50th anniversary.
