What can you learn at FASS?

With 23 departments, schools, and programs to choose from at SFU’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), you aren't confined to one area of study. 

Join us at these free virtual sessions to learn about FASS subjects and courses you can take to learn more your areas of interest. You will also get to hear from current students and instructors for a variety of perspectives.

Due to ongoing COVID-19 precautions, all sessions are held on Zoom. Be sure to install Zoom now so that you’re ready before the sessions start.

Session 2: How Do I Become a Global Citizen?

What is global citizenship? As defined by Oxfam, a global citizen is someone who is aware of and understands the wider world - and their place in it. Taking an active role in their communities, global citizens work with others to make our planet more equal, fair and sustainable. Learn to be a global citizen at FASS!

Session 3: How Can My Political Potential Be Put Into Action?

What is political potential? Maybe you want to better understand the electoral process. Perhaps you want to learn about the history of activism. Or maybe you would like to have a career in government. These are just some of the ways that you can learn to put your political potential into action at FASS!

Session 4: What Does It Mean to Free Your Mind?

Want to free your mind? Do you accept the unspoken rules of society? What about the lessons you were raised with? Whether you ascribe or deny them, challenging what you've been told is a healthy way to ensure you can be rooted in your beliefs, carrying you forward through life with confidence. Learn to free your mind at FASS!

Session 5: What Can We Learn From The Past To Build a Better Future?

What does a better future look like? Put your worries about the present at ease. Exploring the past teaches us that much of what society is going through has happened before. A better future can only be built once the past is understood. Learn to build a better future at FASS!

Session 1: How Do We Create a More Inclusive Society?

What is an inclusive society? As defined by the United Nations, an inclusive society is a society that over-rides differences of race, gender, class, generation, and geography, and ensures inclusion, equality of opportunity as well as capability of all members of the society to determine an agreed set of social institutions. Learn to create an inclusive society at FASS!
