Michael Vegh’s passion for coastal ecology and conservation as well as First Nations studies made the resource and environmental management program the perfect fit for him. During his time as an undergraduate, he held an executive position with the First Nations Students’ Association and co-founded the Bachelor of Environment Student Union for students interested in sustainability and seeking resolutions for environmental degradation.

Michael’s interest in sustainability and Indigenous-led resource management went beyond the SFU campus, taking him to co-op positions where he gained hands-on experience with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, the Heiltsuk Integrated Resource Management Department and the Hakai Institute.

Since graduating, Michael joined the Central Coast Indigenous Resource Alliance as the Resource Management Coordinator working to implement the sustainable resource management practices of our past by ensuring First Nations’ interests and traditional knowledge are balanced with the best western science.
