Job Opportunity - Health Promotion Strategist, SFU Health and Counselling Services

As an integral part of Health and Counselling Services, the Health Promotion Strategist leads strategic initiatives across the university to create environments and foster positive cultures that enhance mental health, well-being, sense of community, and overall positive experience of graduate and undergraduate students at SFU. This includes designing, developing, implementing and evaluating institution-wide, comprehensive and systemic initiatives; and developing and working within a comprehensive student mental health strategy. Working collaboratively with the Associate Director, Health Promotion, the Health Promotion Strategist initiates partnerships with campus stakeholders from across the university, including Faculties, the Teaching and Learning Center, Facilities Services and other administrative and service units to build institutional momentum and embed well-being within campus culture, strategic plans and activities. The Health Promotion Strategist works in collaboration with the Associate Director of Health Promotion, Counselling Services and others at Health and Counselling to ensure the overall health, mental health and well-being of students is improved and enhanced through integrated supports and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Health Promotion, Public Health or Health Education and three years of related experience in health promotion program planning, implementation and evaluation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.   
  • Excellent knowledge of health promotion theory (e.g., Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (WHO), Okanagan Charter, socio-ecological approach) and positive psychology.
  • Excellent knowledge of a settings approach to health promotion action in a higher education environment and awareness of participatory and salutogenic strategies for enhancing health and well-being. 
  • Excellent knowledge of mental health and well-being issues in university age populations including those related to international populations, Indigeneity, LGBTQ+ and other diverse intersecting identities.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research skills (e.g., survey development, focus group design and facilitation, data analysis and interpretation).
  • Excellent planning, organizational abilities. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent leadership, innovation, project management and evaluation skills.
  • Excellent coaching, mentorship and team development skills.
  • Excellent ability to develop relationships and partnerships and to work collaboratively at all levels and areas within the organization.
