Entrepreneurship Opportunity - Invention to Innovation Skills Training Program, MITACS, SFU Vancouver Campus

Mitacs has partnered with the SFU Beedie School of Business to provide entrepreneurship training for graduate students and postdocs through the Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training Program.

So what’s this all about?

Participants develop an entrepreneurial mindset to help them commercialize their inventions and develop translational skills, enabling research scientists to contribute to new product development and commercialization in industry.

Through the Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training, you will:

  • Define and iterate on an innovation idea
  • Validate your business model – test and retest assumptions/hypotheses
  • Gain proficiency in frameworks and skills relevant to science technology commercialization
  • Increase chances of success in your commercialization of a novel product or service
  • Make a real-world impact with your scientific invention
  • Develop an entrepreneurial pitch

What do the courses look like?

There are two mandatory face to face sessions on November 1st and 2nd, 2019 & May 22nd and 23rd, 2020 that will take place at SFU in Vancouver. There will also be four courses delivered online:

  • Lab to Market (Nov 4 – Dec 14, 2019)
  • Opportunity Identification and Assessment (Jan 6 – Feb 15, 2020)
  • Business Models (Feb 16 – Mar 28, 2020)
  • Financial Literacy for STEM Entrepreneurs (Mar 29 – May 9, 2020)
