2022 was an enriching year full of self discovery and new experiences. I dedicated my final semesters to exploring courses outside of FHS which gave me a greater appreciation of the academic world. Returning to campus also allowed me to reconnect with old friends and make new ones along the way. This year I had the honour of participating in RADIUS SFU’s Reimagine Health program, became president of the Health Sciences Undergraduate Student Union, and continued my role in the Health Sciences Undergraduate Journal. Actively engaging with diverse groups of people through these positions were the most fulfilling and exciting aspects of 2022.

Looking back, I could not have asked for a better way to wrap up my degree. I am grateful for my friends, family, peers, and the FHS community for being extremely supportive during my undergraduate journey at SFU. Cheers to 2023!

Arti completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in December 2022.

2022 was the year that really felt like an upwards shift. Classes returned in-person, and a sense of community returned alongside them. I’ve learned how much I’m able to take on and still remain the most genuine version of myself. I competed in the Student Evaluation Case Competitions and World Finals representing team Canada with four incredible individuals in my MPH cohort; completed an incredible practicum at VGH in mental health and substance use; and, was honoured to be the Executive Coordinator of the FHS Graduate Caucus with nine other amazing graduate students. I’m constantly thankful to the amazing faculty, especially my supervisors and professors who took my interests on with kindness, respect, and ongoing guidance.

In 2023, I’m excited to begin my studies in dental medicine at the University of Sydney and can’t wait to apply my learnings and experiences from FHS into every aspect of primary care and community health that I hope to be involved with in the future. My MPH experience has been priceless and will influence my efforts in health care for the rest of my life.

Samer completed his Master of Public Health degree in December 2022.
