Project ID Overview

FINS Project Costing Module

Project Costing is a module in the FINS 9.2 application. Project Costing allows SFU to track additional attributes of Projects for improved categorization and reporting. Some of these attributes are the Project Start and End Date, Project Type and Project Status (i.e. Pending, Open, Hold and Closed).

PC Unit Chartfield

The Project Costing Unit (PC Unit) represents the nature of a Project, and every Project is assigned to one, and only one, PC Unit. The PC Unit roughly aligns with Funds and provides SFU with flexibility in terms of management, reporting and categorization of a Project.

Activity ID

  • Activity ID is a Chartfield that has been introduced for Capital Projects and Lifelong Learning Courses, and it provides a further breakdown of activity in these areas.
  • Examples of how these departments are using ActivityID:
    • Capital Accounting will use the Activity ID to define the nature of the transaction for a Work-in-Progress capital project.
    • Lifelong Learning will use the Activity ID to identify the various offerings of an individual course (eg. Summer-Surrey, Fall-Vancouver).
  • Please note that an Activity ID is uniquely defined for a given Project ID and is not supported across all of SFU's application systems.  For these reasons, SFU is not enabling the Activity ID (at this time) for all departmental areas.
