Canada Place is situated in Canada's busiest harbour and third largest city. Gracing downtown Vancouver's premiere location on a pier in the heart of the city's harbour front, Canada Place overlooks an amazing view of the Gastown historical area, the north shore and Stanley Park to the West. Its innovative design evokes the spirit of Canada's legendary maritime heritage and British Columbia's reputation as Canada's Gateway to the Pacific. The futuristic complex with its distinctive peaked fabric roof is designed to resemble an ocean liner under full sail.
Canada Place is a hub of economic activity and a symbol of national pride. Canada Place Corporation provides stewardship of Canada Place in an inspirationally Canadian way.
Canada's busiest harbour and third largest city surrounds the site of CANADA PLACE. Clearly visible from this site was the growth of the Vancouver area from the visits of the earliest explorers to its present status, the completion of the sawmills and the arrival of the first ships to provide lumber to world markets, the major immigrations from Asia, the completion of the first transcontinental railway along with the arrival of the first train, and the completion of major shipping terminals to support the economy of the Canadian west.
Canada Place is the Government of Canada's landmark investment in British Columbia and has become the focal point for BC's thriving tourist and international trade sectors and a meeting place for all Canadians.
The award-winning Canada Place complex incorporates a mix of public and private sector amenities attracting several million guests annually
Canada Place world-class reputation was established as the site for the Canada Pavilion at Expo 86, acknowledged as one of the best-ever host-nation pavilions at a world exposition. Wholly funded by the Government of Canada, the Canada Pavilion was converted into the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre in 1987 and was then officially turned over to the Province of British Columbia as a lasting legacy for the Canadian people.
