Methodology:
Discussions with Bloody Henriques the Englishman identified a number of criteria to be considered for analysis of areas suitable for the burial of their treasure. Once data were acquired from the S Drive and various external sources, a number of manipulations were necessary before beginning a spatial analysis of the identified problem.
Bloody Henriques the Englishman identified the following criteria as influencing the suitability of an area for 'booty' burial:
- Landuse - sites should be on open and undeveloped lands or parklands and should be located as far away as possible from commercial areas
- Population Density - sites should be located as far away as possible from high density locations
- Distance from Oceans and Navigable Rivers - sites must be located close to shorelines of oceans or navigable rivers
- Dry Land - sites must be located on dry lands so as not to damage the loot or have it wash away with tidal fluctuations
- Streets - sites must not be located on hard top roads as the crew have only shovels at their disposal and cannot, therefore, dig through concrete road surfaces
- Slope - sites must be on relatively flat ground so as to minimize the risk of mass movement carrying treasure downslope and to provide a sufficient amount of soil in which to dig
- Liquor Stores - sites should ideally be located relatively near to liquor stores as the crew are low on supplies of 'grog' and are wanting to 'splice the main brace' upon hiding the loot
Once criteria were established, manipulations were carried out first in ArcMap and then in IDRISI where spatial analysis was ultimately executed. Click on the links below for manipulations preformed in
