What about California?
Regarding the state of California, most earthquakes occur along the San Andreas Fault. In the above map, the regions coloured red are the most active and the regions coloured blue are the most inactive.

Where are the locations of the faults?
Many of the faults are small and seemingly insignificant but in actual fact some of the smaller faults are more hazardous than the larger ones. In southern California this is the distribution of faults across the landscape.

Where is there up to date information?
This site is updated on a regular basis and provides information on earthquakes in California within the past hour, the past day and the past week. It also has information on the magnitude of that earthquake as well as location.
