DATA SOURCES AND METADATA
The spatial analysis of this project is based on the following data:
- elevation and aspect of slope information (Digital Elevation Models)
- information about wooded vs. non-wooded areas (shapefiles)
- information about other physical features such as moraines, glaciers, rivers, lakes, marshes,... (shapefiles)
- information about other cultural features such as roads, railroads, buildings, etc., in order to complete the base maps of the study areas (shapefiles)
- information about mean temperature in January and July (temperature climatic data)
- information about precipitation in the months of December, January, and February (precipitation climatic data)
- information from aerial photography, and topographic maps, in order to make competent decisions about what non-wooded areas to exclude when defining the treeline (imagery)
- information about mathematical relationships between elevation and climatic data, in order to create continuous surfaces from point climate data (bioclimatic literature)
