TEMPERATURE SURFACE

For a better understanding of these transformations, the cartographic model can be displayed in a new window.

Using temperature lapse rates, known elevation and temperature at a climate station in the area, these surfaces are created.

Temperatures at treeline level as result of OVERLAY:

Analysis of these temperatures using HISTO:

Average temperature at treeline level depending on season and study area:

study area 82: Rocky Mtns

study area 92: Coast Mtns

Mean January Temperature (deg C)

-14.9

-8.7

Mean July Temperature (deg C)

+8.0

+7.9

CONCLUSION:

Winter temperatures at treeline level are distinctively different, comparing the two study areas (82 is ca. 6 degrees colder). Summer temperatures are almost exactly the same at treeline level at both study sites (0.1 degree variation).
