OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS

Operational problems primarily existed during the data collection process. It was incredibly hard to find an adequate amount of climate data for these wilderness areas. I was advised to change my project due to a lack of data available. However, in reality, this is what GIS analysts have to cope with. They start out with a project topic, and have to find data for it subsequently, not the other way around. Thus, I tried the same.

Other operational problems I encountered were:

• defining the treeline my manually editing the data
• transforming open polylines into closed polygons
• dealing with the meaningless background value as a result of combining two raster images with OVERLAY (A covers B except where 0)
