Grace Potma receives Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medal
As one of SFU's most outstanding graduate students from the Beedie School of Business, Grace Potma is being recognized with the Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medal. On behalf of SFU, we congratulate Grace Potma as well as all Convocation Medal recipients on their outstanding achievements.
Grace Potma started her MBA in SFU's Beedie School of Business to learn how to create sustainable change in healthcare systems. Ms. Potma is a Registered Nurse with a Speciality Qualification in Emergency Room care. She learned about the importance of a voice for change while working and studying alongside dedicated healthcare colleagues in BC, New Zealand, and Zambia.
While working on her MBA, Potma also served as the president of SFU’s Net Impact chapter, part of a nonprofit global initiative that empowers young leaders to use their skills and careers to create social and environmental change. Under Potma’s leadership, the chapter received the prestigious Gold standing in 2016. As a result of the SFU Net Impact chapter's work, the Beedie School of Business successfully secured a place in the top 50 business schools for environmental sustainability programs in Net Impact's 2016 Guide to Business Schools for Social & Environmental Impact.
After graduating at the top of her cohort, Potma is now applying her skills as a Clinical Product Manager at New Hippo Health, a start-up that aims to improve patient experience and optimize the use of clinical resources with innovative healthcare software. She also provides business consulting for nonprofits and social enterprises that are looking for creative ways to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations in BC and abroad.
She would like to express profound gratitude to her MBA peers, and to her colleagues in BC's Emergency Departments. She says, "I want my peers and colleagues to know that they are my inspiration every day. This award is a testimony to the amazingly dedicated cross-cultural teams that I have the privilege of working with."
