Student Profile: Lynda Beveridge
I work full-time at BCIT as an Instructional Development Consultant, and part-time as an educator for counselling master's programs, and have a part-time practice as a psychotherapist.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
SFU's Faculty of Education has a wonderful reputation. I was seeking a collaborative, cohort-based learning experience and once I met some of the faculty, and talked to a few former students, I knew SFU would be a perfect fit.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND/OR PROGRAM.
I was seeking further insight into experiences of graduate students' professional and personal transformation as a result of their studies. What types of change, how did the changes happen, what facilitated and supported such changes.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I enjoyed the taught courses and getting to know my cohort colleagues well. I especially enjoyed my relationship with my two supervisors and engaging in unique research that I designed and was passionate about.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR FUNDED AWARDS?
I received a graduate entrance award and that included some opportunities to engage in RA work over several semesters. Financial support is always helpful, but even more important was the opportunity to collaborate with my supervisor and other peers in the program on interesting national-level projects.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROGRAM FOR THOSE SEARCHING.
The ETLD program provides opportunities for educators to enhance their paxis and grow personally and professionally. The faculty are wonderful, intelligent people, and passionate researchers and educators who really care about the students in the program.
