Student Profile: Jingyan Sun
Computing Science master's student in the Faculty of Applied Sciences
I am a Master of Science student in the Professional Computer Science - Big Data program. I received my Bachelor's degree from University of Toronto in Statistics and Economics.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO SFU?
SFU has a great reputation for its computer science and data science programs and there are many top-notch researchers and instructors.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?
The curriculums that I have taken in the MPCS program offer well-rounded coverage of topics in big data techniques, including big data programming, data engineering, deep learning and more.
WHAT ARE YOU PARTICULARLY ENJOYING ABOUT YOUR STUDIES/RESEARCH AT SFU?
I really like the hands-on lab courses and the co-op placement in the MPCS program because they prepared me well for working as a data scientist/big data developer in the industry.
HAVE YOU BEEN THE RECIPIENT OF ANY MAJOR OR DONOR-FUNDED AWARDS? IF SO, PLEASE TELL US WHICH ONES AND A LITTLE ABOUT HOW THE AWARDS HAVE IMPACTED YOUR STUDIES AND/OR RESEARCH.
