Habiba Zaman and Hohai University 2016
GSWS Professor awarded Advisory Professorship by Hohai University, China
The Hohai University in Nanjing, China awarded GSWS Professor Habiba Zaman Advisory Professorship through a special ceremony on September 26, 2016. The Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration conducted the ceremony. The Vice-President Academic honored Dr. Zaman with the award. The Director of International Office, Vice-Dean of Gender and Development Research Centre, Director of National Research Centre for Resettlement, many senior Professors, and graduate students of the Faculty of Public Administration attended the event.
During Dr. Zaman’s Visiting Position at Hohai University (September 8 to 29), her activities were under the Faculty of Public Administration, which includes five departments (Sociology, Social work, Public Policy/Administration, Land Management, and Resettlement Management Science). The Faculty has a Gender and Development Research Centre. During her stay, Professor Zaman was scheduled to deliver 5 lectures/seminars to graduate class (MA/PhD students—international and local) and 3 public lectures. The Vice-Dean of Gender and Development Research Centre organized her public lectures, which were very well attended. She was impressed by the diversity of international student population of the Faculty of Public Administration, including those from Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Niger, Liberia, Russia, Nigeria, France, Tajikistan, Laos, Cambodia, Pakistan, Iran, and Bangladesh.
In addition to attending several meetings, Professor Zaman attended two meetings of the Gender and Development Research Centre. The International Office of the Hohai University coordinated all aspects including her lectures, travel plan, and accommodation. The International Office also provided her with a Research Assistant for three weeks. The support and services were exemplary.
