A Vancouver Historical Perspective”

Join the Herstory Cafe, Councillor Andrea Reimer, the Women’s Advisory Committee and special guest speakers to celebrate Women’s History Month and the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives.

Guest speakers include:

Vancouver Co-Op Radio: speaker Nicole Deagan
, Director of Member Services at Vancouver Co-op Radio.

The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF): speaker Ellen Woodsworth, former City Councillor and an activist for social justice, economic equality and environmental sustainability. Her great uncle J.S. Woodsworth was a founder and first leader of the CCF.

CCEC Credit Union: speaker Melanie Conn is a feminist activist who has been involved in co-ops and community economic development for many years in Vancouver. She currently assists new co-ops in their development through Devco and is also the marketing manager for Common Thread.

Vancouver Women’s Health Collective: speaker Jesi Lamb, VWHC member and a third-year UBC biology student, whose goal is to enter medical school and someday serve women and families as a physician.

SFU Co-operative Family: speaker Pat Frouws is the Executive Director of SFU Childcare Society located at the SFU Burnaby Campus.

Women and Housing: speaker Christine O'Fallon is currently a researcher on a national project analysing homelessness policy. Her MA research is on women living in poverty in Vancouver. She is a co-op housing resident and advocate for housing co-ops.
