The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Simon Fraser University
(Burnaby Campus) is seeking outstanding candidates as the Junior Ruth Wynn
Woodward Chair in Women’s Studies, funded by the Ruth Wynn Woodward

This 24 month Junior Chair will be appointed at the rank of an Assistant Professor and
will be awarded for the period of September 1, 2013, to August 31, 2015. The successful
applicant will have a demonstrated expertise in gender, sexuality, and women’s studies,
show strong evidence of teaching potential and public outreach, and be able to participate
constructively in departmental and collegial activities. The Junior Ruth Wynn Woodward
Chair will work under the supervision of Dr. Willeen Keough, Chair. Applicants must
have completed all the doctoral degree requirements by the starting date, or must be
within five years of having received their doctorate. The Assistant Professor level 2
salary is $65,000 per year plus benefits. Responsibilities include teaching of six
undergraduate courses (*3 per year in SFU’s semester system, including at least one large
enrollment course and at least one special course related to the candidate’s research
interests); designing and delivering one major public event during the tenure of the chair:
and engaging in modest community outreach.

The application letter should set out a short (750 word) plan of research consistent with
the SSHRC post doctoral application model, which details how the proposed plan of
work builds on the doctoral research. Include a suggested course outline, description of a
proposed public conference, workshop or lecture series, and type of community outreach
