We are first introduced to the topics that are the pieces that fully encompass Florence. We study and research important landmarks such as the Duomo and Piazza Della Signoria, Filipo Brunelleschi who is vital to Florence’s history and space, and the milestone that is the Renaissance which helped fuel Florence’s culture and the “idea” of design.

During this week we focus on the people and places that are heavily involved with the art and culture of Florence. The Uffizi and the Medici Palace, which were elegantly created to hold beautiful works, are then also related to the Florentine artists and thinkers, such as Dante, Alberti, Machiavelli, etc, who’s works have greatly influenced the world, in the way that we think about design.

CONTEMPORARY FIRENZE open link

In this section we look at the Florence we know now. We have studied different pieces and people that have taken from Florence’s deep past to create its new contemporary design. Helping to fuel this movement into what is now are an array of companies, such as Superstudio, and locations, such as the Marino Marini Museum, and Stazione Leopolda.
