Printing at SFU is faster and easier for students with PaperCut, the new cardless printing management system, available at all three campuses. PaperCut eliminates the need for print cards, and anyone with an active SFU Computing ID can set up an account. Print cards will be completely phased out on December 31, 2016, and students have until then to use the balance on their cards.
Wireless printing is available for Mac, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10 and students can add funds to their PaperCut accounts using a credit card via the web portal or at one of the cash machines located in the following:
- Burnaby - AQ3148, Library 3rd floor
- Surrey - Mezzanine room SC2500
- Vancouver – Harbour Centre computer lab room 1300
Additionally, the Environmental Dashboard in the web portal promotes paper saving and displays the environmental impact of printing on an individual and University-wide basis by:
- Converting sheets into an "energy equivalent"
- Emphasizing forest conservation
- Highlighting CO2 emissions
“The ease of use and environmental impact reporting made the decision to move to cardless printing an easy one,” tells Al Murray, Manager, Desktop Support Services. “We added 7,000 new users in the first month of the semester (September 2016) which brings us to 25,000 users at SFU.”
