Lecture recording can be done automatically with a single intergrated lecture capture solution - no techncial crew necessary. Key lectures can be easily recorded and posted online for students to review after the class. 

 

Audio Lecture Recording

Audio lecture capture has come a long way over the last few decades. Select classrooms are equipped with a built-in audio capture system, which allows for automated scheduled recording and MP3 audio recording capability. The audio only recording is available below:

Full Lecture Recording

This service includes presenter video and presentation capture with audio for your lectures. Lecture can be easily recorded and posted online for student review or archiving.

Who can request a course be audio recorded?

Recordings are only made when specifically requested by the instructor and only in specific rooms where this service is available.

Who can access the audio recordings?

By default, anyone with an SFU computing account can access the recordings.  Special restrictions can be made to a course e-mail list or to specific students by providing this information to lectures@sfu.ca

When are audio recordings available?

Recordings are published within 15 minutes of the end of the class and are available at sfu.ca/lectures

Can I make the audio recordings available in Canvas?

Yes! You can add them to show up in the left navigation menu.

Do I need to wear a microphone?

Yes, in most cases, you should wear the wireless microphone provided. 

How long are audio recordings kept?

Recordings are available on our website until the exam period ends. 
We archive audio recordings for 3 years.

Can I retrieve audio recordings from past semesters?

Yes, Instructors can request their past semester's recordings be put in an SFU Vault share for download.  For the current semester you can download your recordings to archvive from sfu.ca/lectures

Video recordings are posted to Canvas or received directly from course instructors

Full audio, video and presentation recording is now available in 19 rooms at SFU via  Mediasite recorders.

Features

  • Audio includes instructors speaking through the microphones, media, etc
  • Video includes instructors located at the front stage.
  • Presentation includes all materials being projected on the digital projector screen.
  • On-screen text is put through an OCR process, is indexed and searchable.
  • Playback supported on all platforms: PC, tablets, and smartphones.

Who can request a course be multimedia captured?

Recordings are only made when specifically requested by the instructor and only in specific rooms where this service is available.

Who can access the multimedia recordings?

Default: anyone with an SFU computing account who knows the URL to your multimedia recordings can access them.

Choice 1: only you have access to the recordings.

Choice 2: you can restrict recordings to certain computing accounts, or to an Active-Directory based mail list.

When are multimedia recordings available?

Recordings are published within 30 minutes of the end of the class

Recordings are available for the instructor at
stream.sfu.ca

Recordings are available for students in Canvas if you have libked Mediasite to your Canvas course.  Otherwise you can provide them with the access URL for your course.

Can I make the multimedia recordings available in Canvas?

Yes! You can add them to show up in the left navigation menu.
