Wireless Printing from your MAC at the Surrey Campus


These instructions will show you how to print from your own Mac OS 10.3 to 10.5 laptop at SFU Surrey:


What you need: Determine your Mac OS user ID for your laptop. To avoid any confusion while retrieving your print job from our printer release console in the Galleria (Room sc3064 or sc3355) or the Library (Room sc3625), we recommend that you make a note of your Mac OS "short name".

Mac OS X 10.6.x and 10.7.x users PLEASE READ THIS. Do NOT install drivers from this page.


Mac OS 10.3 to 10.5: Download the appropriate printer drivers from this link.
• Scroll down to "printers available to laptop users"  to see which driver you need


LPR Print Queue Installation:

 

1. Open /Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility. 

 

2. Click on Add.

 

 

3. In the "Printer Browser" click on IP Printer, choose "LPD".
• The first (address) field is always "sc-labprinting.labs.surrey.sfu.ca".
• The second field must contain the exact name of the printer you intend to use.

The printers available to laptop users are (drivers names):

Surrey Mezzanine:

sc2300-bw1
(Model: HP LaserJet 9050 PS - DUPLEX)

Surrey Galleria:

sc3064-bw1
(Model: HP LaserJet 4250 PS - DUPLEX)
sc3355-bw1
(Model: HP LaserJet 4250 PS - DUPLEX)
sc4345-bw1
(Model: HP LaserJet 4350 PS - DUPLEX)

Surrey Library:

sc3625-bw1
(Model: HP LaserJet 4250 PS - DUPLEX)
sc3625-clr1
(Model: HP Colour Laserjet 3800n)

DO NOT COPY THE MODEL DESCRIPTION - PLEASE JUST USE THE "scXXXX-xxX" NAME AS SHOWN ABOVE

 

4. Give it a descriptive name, i.e. “Surrey Galleria 3355 HP”.
5. Choose the printer's brand
6. Select the printer's model.
7. Click the "Add" button and select the options for your printer:


HP 4250s have two trays and a duplex unit, choose "Nearest Size & Scale".
The Colour HP has a 96MB RAM and no disk, choose "Nearest Size & Scale".

•Printer setup is now complete.

You may go to our printer release console at sc3064, sc3355, sc3625 or sc4345 (map) to release your print job(s) (your printing ID would be the same as your Mac User ID). For example, if your username on your personal computer is “superkitty”, you MUST type “superkitty” into the login ID field.
