I cannot log into my desktop
If you find you are unable to log into your desktop, there are a few possible issues you can check yourself. They are organized in order of how often we encounter them.
- The most common issue is that you do not have the correct permissions to access your machine. Permissions are assigned by mailing lists. Contact your supervisor to see whom in your department has access to add you to the correct mailing list to give you the proper permissions for the computers.
- The second most common issue is that you are not putting in your password correctly. The ID and password you use will be the same as the ones you use to log into SFU Connect. Both the ID and password are case sensitive, so make sure your caps lock is turned off. If you have forgotten your password, you need to go to Strand Hall, First level, to the ITS Front Desk, and get your password reset. You will need picture ID and your SFU ID number.
- The third most common reason is that you put an incorrect password in too many times, and you've been locked out for security reasons. You will need to wait 30 minutes before attempting to log in again.
If you have eliminated all three issues, please contact your desktop support person and he will ascertain why you cannot log into your machine.
