What are the standard applications the ITDS supports?

The following applications are installed and maintained on all machines supported by the ITDS group. Maintenance involves regularly monitoring the manufacturer’s web site as well as standard Internet security sites looking for updates and patches. Security updates are examined immediately and installed as soon as possible. Program updates and/or new versions are given a more thorough examination and installed as soon as practical.

If your department does not have the software listed above installed, and please talk to your supervisor and have them put in a request to get it pushed down to your department.

Additionally, some licensed software is sent to machines, as required.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Adobe Contribute
  • SnagIt
  • Visio
  • MS Project
  • Adobe Inspiration
  • Adobe Creative Suite

To protect the licensed  Adobe software against piracy, we use a key server.  Each department has a certain number of global keys.  The number of keys are the number of concurrent copies of the program in question that can be opened at one time.  For example, if the Basket Weaving department has 3 concurrent keys for Adobe Acrobat, 3 people could have it open at one time.  The 4th person would be put into a queue, and the program would be permitted to be opened when one of the first 3 closed their copy.

Finally, the following pieces of software are pushed out to the PeopleSoft developers.

  • Aqua Studio Datastudio
  • Beyond Compare
  • IBM DB2 Client
  • People Tools
  • Query Tool
  • SnagIt
  • SQL Optimizer
  • TextPad

Windows Patches

Microsoft Windows Update is configured to automatically download and install security updates at 3:00 AM. Non security related updates are examined for suitability and installed when practical. Security Updates are currently being pulled from the main Microsoft site, but a local WSUS has been brought up and is being investigated.
