"Who will look after me when I am old?" Kendra Strauss lecture at the University of Washington
LECTURE: "Who will look after me when I am old? Social infrastructures of care in the global city,"
This talk, based on research with eldercare workers in Vancouver and Shanghai, explores local labour markets for paid care work and their imbrication with processes of urbanization, fiancialization and the politics of labour. Eldercare workers provide social infrastructures of care that are both vital to, and often elided by, urban policy and urban politics. At the same time, the state and the labour movement seek to make eldercare visible in different kinds of ways.
