SUBMIT YOUR VACCINE DECLARATION

It is mandatory for all students, faculty and staff to declare their vaccine status using SFU’s Vaccine Declaration. More than 88 per cent of our community has completed their vaccination declaration to-date. Of those declared, more than 97 per cent are fully vaccinated.

We continue to remind and follow-up with those who have yet to submit their declarations. Our focus is on community education and communication to see that our members complete their declarations. Continued non-compliance will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you haven’t submitted your declaration yet, please do so now.

UNIVERSITY NEWS

SFU JOINS UNITED NATIONS' CLIMATE CHANGE CAMPAIGN

SFU is committing to the United Nations’ Race To Zero Campaign, a global initiative that is rallying leadership and action ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Scotland (COP26) this fall. The global alliance is the largest of its kind to date and is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest.

The university has also launched a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) website to share how we continue to advance sustainability. The site showcases just some of the many impacts that the SFU community has made across all 17 SDGs. Much like the 2025 Sustainability Plan, this website will constantly evolve and be responsive to the contributions from the community.

RESPECTING OTHERS' BOUNDARIES AS WE COME BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

The transition back to campus has been a major adjustment for many, and your students or colleagues may have different comfort levels than you regarding physical distancing, hugging, wearing masks outdoors and other safety measures.

Learn how setting and respecting boundaries with the people around us can help create healthier relationships and a sense of belonging on campus.

PRESERVING PEOPLE'S HISTORY

SFU Archives partners with campus organizations to ensure that their records are preserved in a secure location and are available for students, researchers, and the organizations themselves long into the future. Recently, they became the repository for the records of Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry (SOCA).

Learn more about the documents donated by SOCA and its impact.

RESOURCES + OPERATIONAL UPDATES

MS TEAMS IS NOW AVAILABLE

Microsoft's virtual collaboration app, Microsoft Teams, is now available at SFU. MS Teams empowers online work by combining chat, video conferencing and modern file-sharing in a single app. It’s also a platform for your digital workspaces to keep teamwork simple and stay connected with others no matter where you are.

PARTICIPATE IN THE ANNUAL SHAKEOUT BC EARTHQUAKE DRILL

Safety and emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility, and each of us has a role to play. Join the SFU community in the annual ShakeOut BC earthquake drill on Thursday, October 21, at 10:21 am.

Download the SFU Snap app and enable notifications, so you get the alert to “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” at 10:21 am. Alerts will also be displayed on digital screens and SFU managed computers. You can also follow along, wherever you are, to the ShakeOut video.

What attributes should every SFU undergraduate student possess or be able to demonstrate? An SFU working group has drafted a set of university-wide educational goals to answer that question and would like your feedback.

View the proposed goals and submit your comments online by Friday, November 5.

We all have personal pronouns. Using the pronouns that match one's gender identity is part of the human right to dignity. By asking about and using others' correct pronouns, we can help everyone feel a sense of inclusion, safety, respect and dignity on SFU campuses and in our communities.

All continuing full and part-time faculty members (tenured and tenure-track professors, lecturers and lab instructors) who have taught a minimum of five years in a continuing position at SFU are eligible. To nominate, please complete this form and email it to vpacad@sfu.ca by Monday, November 1.
