SFU ARCHAEOLOGY COHORT TAKES THE CLASSROOM TO THE COAST

A new SFU course cohort, Underwater Archaeology 200, travelled to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre on Vancouver Island to get up close and hands on with their course material.

The group traded classrooms for temperate rainforests and immersed themselves in exploration and brief lectures to gain a deeper appreciation for Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast and to better understand the region’s maritime history from an Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspective.

 

TO DESIGN A MORE ETHICAL APP, CONSIDER YOUTH WELL-BEING

Interactive Arts and Technology professor Alissa Antle says that as youth adopt wearable technology like smartphones and fitness trackers it raises critical, ethical concerns. She recommends helping young people build their tech literacy, while designing apps that support their well-being.

LOOKING TO HIRE A CO-OP STUDENT FOR SPRING 2022?

SFU faculties and departments can now take advantage of new wage subsidies to hire students for the Spring 2022 term. Explore the HireSFU website for more information about the new funding options, remote work tips and flexible measures.

 

As of Monday, November 15, Document Solutions core services returns to the Surrey Campus in the former service location on the mezzanine level. Services offered at this location include printing and finishing, Crowdmark scanning, coil binding and poster printing.

The Study Public House at the Burnaby campus will be closed indefinitely due to lower than anticipated customer volume this term. The last day of service is Friday, November 12. While we are disappointed with this news, we will work with The Study to support re-opening when feasible.

DEBATE AND DONATE AT THE ANNUAL FACULTY SMACKDOWN

Be part of the fun and attend the Faculty Smackdown Debate in support of SFU’s annual United Way campaign. Students nominated faculty who are known for their sense of humour, ability to talk about anything and possess the spirit of giving. All proceeds raised through tickets sales go to the United Way of British Columbia.
